(A.D. 98–117). We know that Christians experienced persecution during their reigns. The persecution described in the letter could have transpired during the reign of Nero. Peter was eventually martyred on Nero’s orders (Eusebius, Ecclesiastical History 3.1.2–3). If Peter was the author, it was probably written from Rome sometime before Nero’s persecution of Christians began, that is, between A.D. 62 and 64. First Peter obviously resembles the style of Paul’s letters.
